About

Fornieles works in a range of media, such as sculpture, installation and performance, to make work distinctly of our age, from popular movies and television characters to social media platforms. Hailed as a “post-internet” artist, he addresses the ways in which people portray themselves in the real world and online, along with all the decoys, masquerades and playacting that constitute their public and private identities. His work involves elaborate scenarios in which he invites participants to adopt alter egos and engage in role-playing. Using various reoccurring digital archetypes, Fornieles investigates the concepts of family, friendship, relationship, physical interaction and language.

Ed Fornieles was born in 1983 in England. Graduated from Oxford University in 2005 and the Royal College of Art in 2011, he lives and works in London. His recent exhibitions include: Data Streams at The Glucksman Museum, University College Cork (Cork, England), From creatures to creators at Kunsthaus Hamburg (Hamburg, Germany), Cel at Center For Contemporary Art Futura (Prague, Czech Republic), Associations at Carlos/Ishikawa (London, England), London Art Now at Ca’ Pesaro Galleria Internazionale d’Arte Moderna (Venice, Italy), Futures of Love at Magasins généraux (Paris, France), ANTI at the Athens Biennale 2018 (Athens, Greece), Peace at Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt (Frankfurt, Germany) and DO DISTURB. Festival non-stop at Palais de Tokyo (Paris, France). Ed Fornieles is represented by Carlos/Ishikawa (London, England) and collaborates with Blouin Division Gallery (Montreal, Canada).
