Biennale ELEKTRA : Illusion

7th International digital art biennial

May 31 - July 21, 2024

Presented by ELEKTRA since 2012, the largest exhibition dedicated to digital art in North America returns to Arsenal Contemporary Art Montreal.

The 7th edition of Biennale ELEKTRA addresses ILLUSION, a reflection on the post-factual, post-truth and alternative reality era of current society, a subject that is shaking up the news. Indeed, the proliferation of digital communication technologies and tools from artificial intelligence (AI) contribute to disinformation, notably deep fakes. This denial of reality is already negatively impacting the lives of billions of people and even more problematic consequences are to be expected.

For this fifth collaboration in partnership with Arsenal contemporary art, curator Alain Thibault invites more than thirty artists from three continents to study this issue of the perception of truth and falsehood, while exploring the field of speculative fiction. This 7th Biennial aims, once again, to reflect on our societies increasingly surrounded and infiltrated by the digital sphere.

Visitors are incited to question the very existence of certain works, due to their ephemeral, immaterial or even invisible nature, on the basis of a necessary, unfailing credulity towards the artist.

On June 20 and 21, the biennial takes a break for its professional component: the 14th Marché International d'Art Numérique (MIAN). Discover the program here.
